Leaving

It is not goodbye; it is only until next time. As I am preparing to leave Long Island and head to Acklins Island, there is one thing I am certain about.  I will be back here soon.   This place has become part of who I am and just maybe, if I am lucky, I have become a part of it.  Something about it reminds me of the concept and feeling of home.   I am at ease here, which is something of an oddity for me.

My friends here are dear to me, and it seems that number keeps growing.   I am appreciative to each one of them who has made me feel so at home.  The connections to people never end, Wednesday afternoon I will be on a plane headed for Acklins Island, with one of my friends as my pilot, seeing me off to the next segment of this adventure.

Cold fronts, clouds, and weather can be disappointing at the beach, but as a photographer they are amazing opportunities.  Allowing you to shoot all day with great lighting, it also adds layers of texture to the photographs.  Our lives need variety and change, it cannot be sunny and 80 degrees every single day.   If nothing changes or we never have to say goodbye to the people and places we hold dear, then how can we fully appreciate them?

Leaving is bittersweet, but I am certainly excited about visiting Acklins Island.  There will be new flats to fish, photographs to shoot, remote beaches to explore, and certainly friends to make.

Besides, it really is only “Until Next Time”.
