Returning

Hello, my name is Josh and I am an adventure junky. There I said it…

New adventures are exciting for me, exploring places and experiencing them for first time, with “new” being the key word there.  I love that heightened state of awareness, it is the euphoria that only comes with experiencing something grand for the first time.  It only happens once.    As I spend more time in a place, slowly becoming more blind to my surroundings, appreciation slowly disappears regardless of how grand the place, it happens at some varying rate no matter where I am.  It is in our nature.   Repetition is the death of that experience.  Forced changed and uncertainly are necessary ingredients to create that heightened awareness.

On the other hand, there is something also great about returning someplace more familiar.  Experience and familiarity with your surroundings mean you have more resources at your disposal, and potentially new ways to experience the place in some new or better way. You know people and places.

Return trips to especially great places can often have both elements, the new and the familiar. Tonight, as I ready all my photography and fishing gear, I am reminded of these differences in how I perceive my upcoming adventure.  This trip to The Bahamas differs from last year, it is more familiar.  It will certainty provide some amazing new experiences, new friends, and fulfill some new lifelong dreams, but I am equally anticipating reconnecting with the people who are already my friends and the places I already love.

There is still plenty of room for new experiences and adventures, it is the Caribbean!  It is a strange magical place filled with friendly people to meet, empty beaches to walk, blue water to swim in, and an endless amount fish to chase.

Grateful to be living life on my own terms.
